Cookies policy
This page explains the small browser technologies used by Placid. It is designed to keep choices clear and measurement limited.
1. Essential operation
The site may use short-lived session mechanisms needed to deliver pages, protect forms, and remember temporary state. These normally expire when the browser session ends. Rejecting optional cookies does not stop access to editorial pages.
A session mechanism may carry a random identifier, for example a value named PHPSESSID, which lasts only until the browser is closed. Its purpose is to keep a form working during a visit and to reduce automated misuse, and it does not record the articles a reader opens. Because it is strictly needed to deliver a requested service, it does not depend on consent under most data protection frameworks, including the approach taken under Indonesia’s Personal Data Protection Law. If a visitor blocks it, the contact form may fail to submit and the visitor can still read every article. Security filtering by the hosting provider may also set short technical values that expire within 24 hours.
- (a) PHPSESSID or similar: session, essential, expires when the browser closes.
- (b) Security or load-balancing value: up to 24 hours, essential.
2. Cookie choice
The site stores cookieChoice for up to 24 months in local browser storage so the banner does not return after a visitor selects Accept or Reject. This is a preference record, not a profile of reading interests.
The stored value is a short word such as accepted or rejected, together with the date of the choice, and it stays on the visitor’s own device. It is read by the page script to decide whether the banner should be shown, and it is not sent to a server or combined with other information. A visitor can change the choice at any time by clearing site data in the browser, after which the banner appears again. The 24-month period is chosen so that readers who return occasionally are not asked repeatedly, and it is reviewed when the policy is updated.
- (a) Name: cookieChoice.
- (b) Location: local browser storage on the visitor’s device.
- (c) Lifespan: up to 24 months.
3. Measurement
If optional measurement is enabled in a future release, it will be described here before use. Any analytics identifier will have a maximum stated lifespan of 13 months and will be configured to minimise collection.
If measurement is introduced, it will be limited to aggregated figures such as the number of visits to a page and the broad type of device, with IP addresses shortened before storage. A typical analytics identifier, for example one named _ga, would last for up to 13 months and a daily session value for up to 24 hours. We would update this page and the privacy policy before activation, show the banner again, and keep the tools switched off for visitors who have not agreed. Measurement is used to understand which topics are useful and which pages are hard to find, not to follow individual readers across other websites. At present, no optional analytics cookie is set by default.
- (a) Purpose: counting visits and spotting navigation problems.
- (b) Lifespan: up to 13 months for an identifier and up to 24 hours for a session value.
- (c) Status: off until a visitor opts in.
4. Preferences
Preference technologies remember choices such as language or display settings for up to 12 months where offered. Placid does not use preference information to infer medical status or target health advertising.
Examples of preference values include text size, reduced motion or a chosen reading layout, which would be stored in a value of up to 12 months. These values hold only the setting itself, for instance a word such as large, and they carry no name, email address or health information. A visitor can remove them by clearing site data or by choosing the default option where one is offered. Because they affect only how a page looks, they are not used for advertising and are not shared with other organisations. If a preference feature is not currently offered, no such value is stored.
- (a) Display settings: up to 12 months.
- (b) Reading layout: up to 12 months.
5. Third parties
Hosting and security providers may process technical requests. Their access is limited to service operation and is governed by contracts or applicable safeguards. No third party receives a reader’s contact details for sale.
The providers concerned fall into hosting, network security and email handling, and each is bound by an agreement that limits use of the information to operating the service. Some of their servers may be outside Indonesia, in which case the transfer follows the safeguards described in the privacy policy. Third-party advertising cookies and social media tracking pixels are not placed on the pages. If an embedded external item, such as a video, is added later, we would name the provider here and ask for consent before it loads.
- (a) Hosting: serves pages and keeps technical logs for about 90 days.
- (b) Security filtering: blocks automated abuse.
- (c) Email handling: delivers messages sent through the contact page.
6. Browser controls
Most browsers let visitors block, delete, or restrict cookies through privacy settings. Blocking essential mechanisms may affect form or navigation behaviour. Deleting storage may cause the consent banner to appear again.
In common browsers, the controls are found under Settings, then Privacy or Security, where cookies and site data can be viewed per site, blocked or deleted. Mobile browsers on Android and iOS offer similar options, and private browsing windows discard most stored values when the window closes. Deleting only the cookieChoice value brings the banner back without affecting other site data. Visitors who use several devices need to repeat their choice on each device, because the value is stored locally. Instructions differ by browser version, so the help pages of the browser maker give the most reliable steps.
- (a) Block all: may stop the contact form from working.
- (b) Delete on exit: the banner returns at the next visit.
- (c) Per-site exceptions: allow essential values only.
7. Consent
Where law requires consent, optional technologies wait until a visitor makes an affirmative choice. Rejecting means optional measurement is not activated. A later change can be made by clearing site data or contacting the desk.
8. Retention
Consent records remain for 24 months, analytics identifiers for no more than 13 months, and server security logs for up to 90 days. Backups may take up to 35 days to rotate out.
9. Children
Placid is not directed to children under 16 and does not intentionally use cookies to profile them. A parent or guardian may contact us if a concern arises.
10. International processing
Infrastructure may operate across borders. We assess providers for confidentiality, security, and minimisation before relying on them. Requests about a particular technology can be sent to [email protected].
11. Updates
This policy was updated October 1, 2026. Changes to cookie names, purposes, or lifespans will be recorded with a new date and a concise explanation.
12. Contact
For questions call +62 813 7755 3399 or write to Jl. Cendrawasih No. 88, RT.003/RW.007, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, Jakarta 12120, Indonesia.
Further detail on consent records, complaints and revisions
- (a) Consent record: the choice made through the banner is recorded only as the cookieChoice value on the visitor’s device, which means Placid cannot identify who agreed. Consent can be changed at any time without penalty, and rejecting optional technologies never limits access to articles.
- (b) Transfers: where a provider processes technical requests outside Indonesia, the safeguards described in the privacy policy apply, and the transfer is limited to what is needed to deliver pages.
- (c) Questions and complaints: write to [email protected], call +62 813 7755 3399 or post a letter to Jl. Cendrawasih No. 88, RT.003/RW.007, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, Jakarta 12120, Indonesia. We acknowledge a message within 3 working days and aim to reply within 30 days.
- (d) Revision log: October 1, 2026 – current edition published, listing session, preference and consent values with their lifespans. Future additions, such as an analytics tool, will appear here with a dated entry before they are switched on.
Further detail on cookies and similar technologies
This note adds practical detail to the sections above and does not replace them. Placid keeps the list of browser technologies short so that a reader can understand each item. Items are grouped by purpose: essential operation, stored preferences and, only after a visitor accepts, limited aggregate measurement.
- (a) PHPSESSID or similar: first-party, session only, essential.
- (b) cookieChoice: first-party, stored in local browser storage for up to 24 months, records Accept or Reject and the date.
- (c) Aggregate measurement values: set only after Accept, first-party, kept for up to 13 months, used to count visits to pages without naming a reader.
- (d) Hosting security values: up to 24 hours, essential.
Service providers that may handle technical data on behalf of Placid fall into three categories: the hosting provider that serves the pages, a content delivery network that speeds up fonts and files, and an aggregate analytics tool used only after consent. Each acts under written terms that limit use of data to the service requested. Technical data may be processed on servers outside Indonesia, and where this occurs it is handled under contractual safeguards consistent with Law No. 27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection.
A visitor can change a choice at any time by clearing site data in the browser, which makes the banner appear again on the next visit. Most browsers also let a visitor block or delete cookies for a single site. Blocking essential items may stop the contact form from sending, but all articles remain readable. Questions about this page can be sent to [email protected] or by post to Jl. Cendrawasih No. 88, RT.003/RW.007, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, Jakarta 12120, Indonesia, or by phone on +62 813 7755 3399. Placid acknowledges a message within 3 working days and gives a full answer within about 30 days.
